back on track

Pueblo Bonita Sunset Beach Resort

Let's see, where did I get to in our story . . . oh yes, WE ARE FINALLY HERE! After more than 24 hours of travel and anticipation, this is what we see when we get out of the shuttle bus. Ironically, it also ends up being the building we were assigned to. (That sounds a little academic . . . how about, the building we are fortunate enough to have a reserved suite in . . . better) Since this is a BLOG and not a 500 page novel, I suppose some of the details don't need to be shared. Like, what we had to eat each meal, what we wore, when we got up, when we started partaking in adult beverages; you get the picture. I will try to share only the comedic details, and believe me, with the three of us, there was plenty of material.

Okay, just a few moments of interest between waking up in Houston and stepping out of the Mexican airport shuttle (we missed Nancy Broadway):
  • Gathered all belongings quickly, no showers, dress in the our matching outfits again, made sure the snack suitcase was intact. (only a bunch of moms right?)
  • Smooth trip back to Bush International, presented passports, shopped at the duty free store, waited patiently for our 10:20 AM flight.
  • Boarded the plane, sitting together, got the iPad ready to watch Sex and the City, of course, and try to contain our excitement, only to be told by the captain that there were mechanical issues with the plane and we couldn't take off until they were fixed, duh! (how long did we wait? we were able to watch the first half of the movie before we pulled away from the gate.)
  • Landed in Mexico, got stamps on our passports, none of us had to endure the random suitcase search, got talked into a timeshare tour that we didn't go on, and had our first Mexican beer before getting on the shuttle . . . whew!

Entering the lobby was awesome. When the word resort is part of the name of your accommodations, you expect the lobby and grounds to look like the vision we were taking in as we approached the front desk. We had almost forgotten the delays and the detours, we were here! Since I, Carrie, had booked this resort, I was the one who approached to "check us in." The friendly attendant greeted me in Spanish with a huge smile. (How fun was this!) I gave him my name and credit card, you know the drill, and waited patiently. After a few moments of silence and furious typing, the young man looked up to tell me that we didn't have a room . . . you aren't surprised are you . . . for the second time in 24 hours, my stomach was in my throat. What I heard was "Señora, we no have your room." What he said was, "Señora, we no have your room ready." He must have noticed my panic because he quickly reassured me that they had had to upgrade our room because of our delay in arriving. They didn't have any other rooms available like the one we had reserved. Upgrade? Please let this be a good thing! He gave me three drink coupons, pointed toward the bar and said he would let us know when the room was ready.

Cheers! We made it!
Did it matter to us that we weren't able to check in right away? Does it look like it mattered? Our first official adult beverage at the Group Therapy resort, in Cabo San Lucas Mexico. Finally, our Mexican adventure begins.

To be continued . . .
